BioSteel is a brand that was known for its sports hydration mix. The company was founded in Toronto in 2009 by entrepreneur John Celenza and former National Hockey League (NHL) player Michael Cammalleri. It started selling its products directly to professional teams in North America. A major shift in the company’s strategy came in 2019, when Canopy Growth Corporation purchased a significant stake in BioSteel. By this point, BioSteel products had been purchased by more than 70 per cent of teams in the four major leagues. However, despite its initial success and growth, BioSteel filed for bankruptcy protection in the US and Canada and is currently looking for a buyer for the business. Therefore, while BioSteel was a legitimate company, its current status is uncertain due to its financial difficulties.
